This list is somewhat objective, based on his 35 years of visiting Cabo. Certainly there are many other excellent hotel choices for you in Cabo. Hopefully you will find these suggestions helpful in narrowing down your options for your next visit to Paradise!
CABO SAN LUCAS HOTELS
The hotels in Cabo San Lucas come in all shapes and sizes, and there's one to match almost every budget. The most expensive hotels are located right on the beach or on the marina, while the more affordable hotels are located downtown in Cabo San Lucas or San Jose del Cabo.
Unlike the hotels on Waikiki and Cancun, where the hotels are located v-e-r-y close together and seem to be sitting right on top of each other, the master plan for Los Cabos (the 20 mile coastal tourist area between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo) requires the hotels and resorts along the Los Cabos corridor be spaced with ample room between them. This allows for a more open feeling along the coast, and for less congestion in front of each hotel. If you've been to Cancun you know what we're talking about.
An article in Conde Nast Traveller Magazine provided a hint of what is to come with Cabo's lodging options. In it's "Top 100" survey, Los Cabos garnered 3 of the top 10 hotels in Latin America, including Las Ventanas al Paraiso as the #1 resort. Yes, you can still find 'affordable funk' lodging in Cabo, as well as an excellent selection of mid-range hotels, but these hotels will continue to share the stage with an increasing number of new high-end destination resorts.
Hotel rates quoted for Cabo hotel rooms generally do not include the 10% room tax, plus possible service costs. You must add these costs to the price you are quoted. If you are flying to Cabo on a package vacation, all of these costs are ususally incuded in the price you have paid.
SAN JOSE DEL CABO is just a 25 minute drive up the coast from Cabo and offers a host of additional accomodations at a bit slower pace.

BEACHSIDE HOTELS
Beachside hotels in Cabo are the hot tip if you love looking at or swimming in the ocean! There's nothing like rolling out of bed, walking past the pool and across the sand and wading into the crystal clear warm waters of the Sea of Cortez. In addition, most of the beachside rooms have great ocean views! Another advantage to these hotels is close proximity to all the action. There is always something going on along the coast in Cabo, especially at Medano Beach!
CHEAP
You don't have to have a pocket full of pesos to stay in Cabo! There are some very good cheap hotels that will meet your needs. CLUB CABO is a small off-the-beaten-path motel within walking distance to Cabo's best beach, El Mendano. It is also a bit removed from town (a 15 minute walk), so it is very quiet at night.INEXPENSIVE
If you have driven down the Baja Peninsula you have probably seen the small yellow signs promoting CABO INN. It's a quaint hotel located in downtown Cabo, very close to all the action. This 2 story hotel offers a cozy courtyard and usually has rooms available unless there is a big event in town.MODERATE
For many years the HOTEL MAR DE CORTEZ has provided a good place to stay for those who didn't want to shell out big bucks to sleep near the beach. This Cabo standby is located in the heart of downtown Cabo, a very short walk to restaurants, bars and all the action. Good management and a nice pool makes this a very good hotel.EXPENSIVE
Sitting on the best beach in Cabo the MELIA SAN LUCAS is the perfect place for those who want to be in the middle of the beach action! The pool and swim up bar are a real treat, and all kinds of watersports are available just steps away on the Sea of Cortez.VERY EXPENSIVE
If you want to be pampered in style, and still be located on Cabo's best beach, you only have one choice. The PLAZA BONITA ROSE is one of Cabo's nicest hotels, and they pulled out all of the stops when they built her. The center courtyard and pool area are breathtaking! Looking for a romantic getaway and don't mind spending the bucks? Welcome home!EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE
Rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous can be fun, but it does come at a price. The ONE AND ONLY PALMILLA draws the "money is no object crowd" and it truly is a spectacular place to stay. It is not designed like a regular hotel, which is refreshing and still very functional. The resort is located about 15 miles outside of Cabo, so you really feel you are away from it all. Bill Gates and John Travolta can't be wrong.
