EL SQUID ROE
Cabo San Lucas is about a lot of things....sunshine, fishing, diving, golf, spectacular beaches and much more. But it is also known the world over for one very special element...nightlife. And ground zero for Cabo nightlife is Squid Roe.
Squid Roe wasn't the first watering hole to hit the scene in Cabo, but it was a close second. While the Giggling Marlin wins the prize for first bar on the block, Squid Roe was right behind them and soon grabbed the spotlight for "Best in Show".
Much of the success of this famous watering hole is a matter of experience. Squid Roe is owned by the Anderson Group, a successful Mexican corporation based in Guadalajara that has redefined the definition of fun throughout Mexico for decades now.
Carlos and Charlie's, Carlos O'Brian's, Senior Frog's...these are all success stories of the Anderson Group. But Squid Roe is different. Carlos Fiesta has been to most of the major hotspots run by the Anderson Group in Mexico and rates Squid Roe at the top of the list.
What makes Squid Roe so much fun? Lots of things. For starters the people who work there. They enjoy their job and like the idea of helping you have fun. And the layout of the building is set up to accommodate these workers with their goal. It's a very fun environment.
For those who want a peak of this famous venue but don't like the idea of staying up late, Squid Roe's Billy Kitchen serves up delicious meals for lunch and dinner each day before the music gets turned up and the place starts hoppin'.
Where you want to set up camp inside Squid Roe in the evening largely depends on what you want to do while you are there. Just want to drink and watch the world go by? Grab a table downstairs before the dance floor area. Like to watch and/or particiate in the dance madness? Head for the seating areas around the dance floor or towards the back.
For those who want to people watch and enjoy the action on the dance floor, head upstairs. From this vantage point you've got a great show to watch and it's easy enough to rumble on down the stairs on the south side if you want to hit the dance floor.
The three underlying fun elements during an evening at Squid Roe are drinking, dancing and music. Even if you don't like any of these three sins you can still have fun doing the fourth most popular fun thing at Squid Roe....people watching.
The crowd at the Squid is a diverse mix of surfers, sailors, off road enthusiasts, adventurers, cowboys, college kids and an eclectic mix of the average Baja traveler. At Squid Roe the people from the far corners of the world come to enjoy life, and you get to watch.
Squid Roe starts to hop between 10:00 pm and 10:30 pm. The staff puts on occassional entertainment show snippets in the main salon and on the dance floor between 10:30 and midnight to add flavor to the evening, and the dancing goes on until at least 3:00 a.m.
Squid Roe's Clothes Line is located at the entrance on the left side as you enter the building. If you are looking for an inexpensive T-shirt to give that special someone back at home this is a good option.

Got the midnight munchies? Head upstairs towards the middle of the building and track down the food cart. Although the menu can change, this is a good place to grab a hot dog or hamburger to give you the energy the keep on keepin' on all night long!
